Morocco calls for respect of the ceasefire in Lebanon
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Nasser Bourita, characterized, on Tuesday in Rabat, the ceasefire in Lebanon as a "positive development" that must be respected and consolidated to preserve the unity of this country and the security of its territory.
The announcement of the ceasefire in Lebanon is "a positive development, but it must be respected and consolidated to create the necessary conditions for the preservation of the unity of this country and the security of its territory," Mr. Bourita indicated during a joint press conference with his Djiboutian counterpart following their meetings.
The translation of the provided text is: "Morocco commends all international efforts aimed at establishing a ceasefire in Lebanon and stopping the repeated attacks against the Lebanese territory and people, added the minister."
M. Bourita has thus characterized as "significant" the international initiatives aimed at ensuring Lebanon's stability, expressing the hope that the ceasefire will be respected after "unfortunately observed violations in its implementation by the parties".
The minister also expressed hope that the ceasefire could pave the way for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 on southern Lebanon, emphasizing the importance of strengthening the role of Lebanese national institutions to enhance the security and safety of the Lebanese people. "The Kingdom of Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, supports Lebanon's territorial integrity and its sovereignty over its territory," noted Mr. Bourita, affirming that the stability of the Cedar Country remains crucial for ensuring its unity and strengthening the security and safety of its people.
Mr. Bourita also emphasized the importance of finding a solution to the Palestinian question. It is the "best way to ensure security and stability in the Middle East."
And to conclude that strengthening security and stability in the region "can only be achieved through the resolution of the Palestinian question within the framework of the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the 1967 borders."
