El Mordjene banned in France: the French government reacts

El Mordjene is banned in France and the European Union. The French Ministry of Agriculture has confirmed the measure taken against the famous Algerian spread. It then announced the opening of an investigation into the presence of this product on the French market.

As reported exclusively by TSA on Friday, September 13, containers of jars of El Mordjene spread were blocked by the French authorities at the port of Marseille on Thursday. The decision has just been confirmed by the French authorities.

The El Mordjene spread is officially banned from import to European Union countries, including France.

The Ministry of Agriculture confirms the ban on El Mordjene in France

The ban on this Algerian product in the European Union was confirmed on Tuesday by the Ministry of Agriculture, quoted by the newspaper Le Figaro, because Algeria is not on the list of third countries authorized to export food products containing milk to Europe.

Algeria does not meet "all the conditions necessary to allow a third country to export to the European Union goods containing dairy products intended for human consumption", indicated the French Ministry of Agriculture.

As it cannot therefore meet the conditions of compliance with "European requirements in terms of animal health and food safety, the importation of this product is not authorized by the applicable regulatory framework", added the ministry.

The French Ministry of Agriculture also addressed the issue of the presence of quantities of this product on the French market. Moreover, it announced the opening of an investigation into this matter.

Investigation opened into the presence of El Mordjene spread in France

An investigation has been opened "to determine the circumvention mechanisms that have allowed this product to be placed on the market so far," the Ministry of Agriculture added.

The blocking of quantities of El Mordjene spread at the port of Marseille is also confirmed by the French government. "Two shipments are currently blocked at French border control posts," the same source indicates.

It should be remembered that El Mordjene spread has been the subject of significant media coverage in recent weeks, after its dazzling success with influencers on social networks.

The French authorities therefore only became aware of the presence of this product in France after its enormous success on the market. However, this spread has been marketed in France for several months.

Moreover, the French distribution giant, Carrefour, recently announced its intention to “market the famous El Mordjene Cebon spread within two to four weeks.”
