South Korean President Yoon Suk-yool issued his first official apology today, Thursday, regarding his wife, Kim Kyun-hee, receiving a luxury handbag under suspicious circumstances two years ago.

This is the clearest expression of regret from Yoon so far, since a video surfaced on the internet last year showing the South Korean First Lady accepting a handbag worth around $2,200 from a Korean-American pastor, equipped with a hidden camera, according to the Korean news agency Yonhap.

South Korean President said during a press conference on the occasion of the second anniversary of his presidency: "I apologize for causing people concern due to my wife's unwise behavior."

He continued, affirming that he would refrain from further comment, as the prosecution investigations are already underway regarding these allegations, and his statements might be misinterpreted as an attempt to influence the investigation.

In response to calls from the opposition in the country for a separate investigation into separate allegations that his wife was involved in stock price manipulation, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yool clarified during the press conference that such investigations should only come after considering the adequacy of the public prosecution and other agencies' investigations.

The Democratic Party in South Korea sought to pass legislation to initiate an investigation into Yoon's wife, Kim Kyun-hee, after a secretly recorded video surfaced several months ago allegedly showing her receiving a luxury handbag. Yoon and his wife denied any wrongdoing, stating that the handbag was part of a "political maneuver."
