EU says it wants to strengthen relations with Morocco
The EU's desire to bolster ties with Morocco was highlighted in a recent phone conversation between EU High Representative Kaja Kallas and Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita. Kallas affirmed that the EU can count on Morocco as a reliable partner in tackling regional issues, particularly concerning the Middle East. This dialogue is part of a broader effort by the EU to reaffirm its commitment to Morocco following recent European Court of Justice (ECJ) rulings affecting agricultural and fishing agreements, which have strained relations in the past. The EU has reiterated its intention to deepen cooperation in areas such as security, trade, and migration, recognizing Morocco's role as a pillar of stability in the region. The strategic partnership encompasses various dimensions, including political dialogue, economic cooperation, and cultural exchanges. The EU aims to foster a relationship based on shared values and mutual interests, with an emphasis on sustainable development and addressing migration challenges.
EU says it wants to strengthen relations with Morocco
The High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, affirmed that the EU can "count on Morocco to strengthen our long-standing relations and meet challenges together".
"I know that we can count on Morocco to strengthen our long-standing relations and meet the challenges together," said Ms. Kallas following the telephone interview she had on Monday with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans living abroad, Mr. Nasser Bourita, which focused on bilateral and regional issues of common interest.
In a post on the social network X, published at the end of the telephone interview, Ms. Kallas, in particular, described as "useful" her exchanges with Mr. Bourita on the situation in the Middle East, reflecting the important role that Morocco plays, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, on the Middle East issue.

This telephone interview is Ms. Kallas's first with a manager from the Maghreb and Africa region, since she took up her new position at the beginning of December.
Last October, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the former EU High Representative, Josep Borell, reaffirmed, in a joint Declaration, the EU's commitment to preserving and strengthening its close relations with Morocco in all fields.
"In close cooperation with Morocco, the EU firmly intends to preserve and continue to strengthen its close relations with the Kingdom in all areas of the Morocco-EU partnership," affirmed this Joint Declaration, which represents the highest political act of the EU and a rare fact that underlines the importance of Morocco and materializes the importance of the EU's partnership with the Kingdom.
Similarly, last November, at the end of his talks in Rabat with Mr. Bourita, the European Commissioner for neighborhood policy and Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, described Morocco as “always reliable, available and serious partner, which is considered in Europe as a pillar of stability and prosperity in terms of regional security”.
