The project, representing an investment of 2.5 billion dirhams, aligns perfectly with the new development model for the southern provinces, initiated in 2015 under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. Launched in December 2022, the plant paves the way for a new irrigated perimeter spanning 5,200 hectares. This expansion promises to bolster agricultural production, particularly for high-value export crops.
Developed under the framework of Law 86-12 governing public-private partnerships, the Dakhla desalination plant exemplifies a collaborative approach. It involves stakeholders throughout all phases, from design and financing to construction and operation.

Khalid Ghazzali, a hydraulics expert, highlighted the plant's significant impact in a statement to the MAP press agency. Once operational, the facility will provide 37 million cubic meters of water annually. Of this, 7 million cubic meters will be allocated to meet the drinking water needs of Dakhla and its surrounding areas.
