According to reports, Microsoft is working on developing an artificial intelligence-powered chatbot for Xbox platforms designed to assist players in answering their inquiries.
The robot will be a humanoid character that responds to players' requests, utilizing the company's support site to provide answers and assistance.
This represents an expansion of Microsoft's inclusion of artificial intelligence in its products, as it has begun incorporating it into the Windows operating system and the Office software suite.
According to a recent report from The Verge, Microsoft is developing an artificial intelligence-powered chatbot for Xbox platforms designed to assist players in answering their inquiries.
The chatbot will take the form of a humanoid character that responds to players' queries and commands. The official Xbox Support website will serve as a reference for information, allowing the chatbot to provide players with relevant tips and even process refunds if desired.
Within the Xbox company, the chatbot is referred to as the 'Xbox Support Virtual Agent.' It appears that we will be able to interact with this chatbot through text or voice conversations, similar to how we currently interact with ChatGPT.
Haiyan Zhang, General Manager of Gaming AI at Xbox, told The Verge: "We're testing the Xbox Support Virtual Agent, an internal early prototype of a graphical character that can respond to Xbox Support topics via voice or text."
Zhang added, "This early prototype increases the ease and speed at which players can get assistance on support topics using natural language and takes information from existing Xbox Support pages."
The Xbox chatbot aligns with Microsoft's encouragement for its customers to create their own for support automation. Microsoft owns the Azure AI Bot Service, which is used by major companies like PwC and Vodafone to create their own chatbots.
To illustrate how the robot works, when a player summons the chatbot, it initiates the conversation by saying, "How can I help you today?" The player may request assistance in solving an Xbox service issue, for example, and the chatbot responds to the player's request and assists them based on the information from the Xbox Support website.
It's worth mentioning that Microsoft is working on bringing AI features to the gaming content industry, gaming operations, and Xbox devices. This includes experimenting with AI-generated game arts and assets, testing AI-powered games, and non-playable characters (NPCs) with generative AI, in collaboration with Inworld AI for development.
