The city of Dubrovnik in Croatia is a famous tourist destination in Europe, whether for its natural beauty, vibrant colors, or magnificent architectural structures. Dubrovnik attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors annually. However, the new policy of this beautiful city has surprised tourists from all over the world who wish to visit it.
Residents of Dubrovnik have complained about noise pollution when tourists drag their wheeled suitcases around the city's cobblestone streets, claiming that this action keeps them awake at night. This is according to the New York Post.
For this reason, Mayor Mato Franković has introduced new rules prohibiting tourists from dragging their wheeled suitcases around the winding streets of Dubrovnik's old town. Visitors who violate this rule face a hefty fine of $288.
It is worth noting that this decision came as part of the 'Respect the City' initiative by the Dubrovnik Tourist Board.
The city's website also mentions that the ban is part of a larger plan to prevent tourists from carrying bags in Dubrovnik. According to local reports, starting from November, the local government plans to implement a system where travelers deposit their bags outside the city.
According to the Dubrovnik Times, Dubrovnik has continued to be an extremely popular tourist destination, with 289,000 visitors and 763,500 overnight stays since the beginning of the year.
In addition to its cobblestone streets, the old town of Dubrovnik is renowned for its ancient walls surrounding it, its sunny climate, and being the location of King's Landing in the famous television series Game of Thrones.
